Pillow Inserts / Forms
Q: What size pillow insert (form) do I order for my 28" sham?
A: Depending on the fullness you desire, we suggest ordering an insert that is 2" larger than your pillow sham. This will, also, fill the corners of your sham. For example, for a 28" sham, order a 30" insert. If your sham measures 16" x 20"; order an 18" x 22 insert.
Note: If your decorative cover is a thin material, (such as silk, satin, poly/rayon) we suggest ordering your pillow insert just 1" larger than finished size.
Q: What size insert do I order for my 'boxed' sham?
A: Add 2" to the length and width as discussed above, but keep the dimension of the box height the same.
For example, your finished boxed pillow will be 25" x 25" x 4" box.
Order an insert that is 27" x 27" x 4" box.
Q: What difference does the fill make in a pillow insert?
A: Your choice of fill depends on the purpose of the pillow and the feel you are after. Ask yourself, is the pillow to be used as decoration only?Is the pillow for decoration and comfort? Designers and workrooms with whom we work, like blown poly-fiber fill for affordable, firm, display pillows. Many choose the 50 / 50 feather / poly-fiber fill for affordable, decorative, comfortable feather pillows. The feather allows a slight "chop"—has a more casual look.
Q: What material is used as the cover for an insert?
A: For poly-fiber fill inserts, we use a material called 'Accord', a non woven material similar to airplane pillow covers.
For feather inserts, we use a high thread count (250 - 350 TC tightly woven) down-proof tick. This keeps the feathers from poking through the insert.
Q: How do I measure my bolster to order the correct size of insert?
A: The measurements we need for your bolster insert are the diameter and the length (to calculate the diameter, measure straight across the center of your round end—not around the outside). Unlike square or rectangular inserts where you order an inch or two larger than your sham, for a bolster you order the exact measurements of your sham.
Q: What sizes and shapes of inserts do you manufacture?
A: Any size and shape, including boxed or turkish cornered pillows or cushions.
Q: Can you make a body pillow?
A: Yes, according to your personal specifications.
Q: What is your most popular fill?
A: For the past couple years, our high-end designers and workrooms have been ordering 50 / 50 feather / poly-fiber. This fill allows the "chop" of feather and the recovery of poly. It's our favorite blend.
Q: Will you finish my decorative pillow or cushion?
A: Yes. We will make the decorative cover with your design and material.
Q: Do you make duvet inserts?
A: Yes, with your specific size and fill requirements.
Q: Can I talk with an expert about how to determine my pillow or cushion size?
A: Yes. Call 1.800.560.1631.
Blown Poly-Fiber
Q: Is there a difference in the quality of poly fiber?
A: Absolutely. We use top-grade poly-fiber. Our fiber is hollow, white, and siliconized—the hollow center allows air to flow through the fiber—airflow allows the pillow to recover, and the silicone makes the fiber slick and smooth. Low-grade fiber we equate to a piece of uncooked spaghetti—can be gray in color, solid, and will become gray on color very quickly.
Down & Feather
Q: What is the difference between down and feather?
A: Feather has a quill (a spine). Down has no quill—is totally soft.
Q: Is there a difference in the quality of down & feather?
A: Absolutely. For high quality standards, we choose to use only white goose down and white goose feather. Lesser quality is darker in color, oily to the touch, smelly, and crunchy due to thick, hard quills. Some pillow manufacturers use duck and chicken feathers.
Q: Can I wash my 100% down bed pillow?
A: Yes. After washing your pillow on gentle cycle in warm water, put your pillow through the spin cycle at least 3 times, then thoroughly dry (be certain your pillow has dried through and through).
